About Us

Small on purpose.

Next Level Books is a Washington bookkeeping practice built around a narrow scope done properly. We keep monthly books and handle state and city filings for construction trades and professional service businesses. That’s it, and that’s deliberate.

How this started

Good businesses, bad books.

I kept meeting contractors and small firm owners who were genuinely good at what they did and whose books were a mess. Not through carelessness. They’d hired someone, or done it themselves at night, and nobody involved knew what Washington actually asks of them. Washington is unusual. Sales tax follows the job site instead of the shop. B&O is charged on gross receipts whether you made money or not. Cities run their own tax on top of the state’s. Most bookkeepers, understandably, would rather not learn all of it. We decided to. That’s the whole idea behind Next Level Books. Know one state’s rules extremely well, keep the scope narrow enough to do it properly every month, and stay small enough that clients aren’t handed off to whoever is free.

How we work

4 things you can always count on.

Consistency

The same people, month after month.

A small team supports the monthly work, and you’ll know who’s on your file. Not a rotating queue, not a different name every quarter. When something looks off in your numbers, the person who notices is someone who already knows your business.

Communication

Reach us how it suits you.

Email, secure portal, text, or a call when something actually warrants one. Most questions get answered without anyone scheduling anything. You shouldn’t have to book a meeting to ask a 2-minute question.

Scope

We say no to work we shouldn’t take.

We don’t do tax returns, construction CFO work, retail or e-commerce, inventory-heavy businesses or non-profits. When someone isn’t a fit, we try to point them toward someone who is. That’s better for everyone than stretching to cover something we’d do poorly.

Software

QuickBooks Online and Xero, both done right.

Most bookkeepers offer one type of software. We work in both, and in the field and practice management systems that feed them, so the software you already run isn’t a reason we can’t help.

Credentials

Certified and current on the rules.

Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor and Xero Certified Advisor.

More importantly, we track Washington tax changes as they happen, because they happen constantly. Rates move quarterly. Classifications get rewritten. Cities change thresholds. Staying current on that is part of the job, not a bonus.

“We have a small business with what I would consider slightly complex book work that involves multiple city tax codes. I at first attempted it myself and it was a disaster. We then hired a different bookkeeper and boy did she mess up our stuff… They quickly and efficiently cleaned up our books and got us back on track. Even our accountant praises their organization.”
