Cyber Security

We take security seriously here at Next Level Books.

While it is impossible to avoid all risks, there are a number of things small businesses can do to protect themselves.

Cyber Security Tips & Best Practices

Since the vast majority of software today is cloud-based, it’s crucial that everyone with access have their own login credentials and do not share usernames or passwords.

We highly recommend using a password manager to create long, unique passwords without any personal information within them.

You may have heard of or used 2-Factor Authentication (2FA). This can be an effective way to boost login security, however, the most common form that utilizes text messages is now being hacked by cyber criminals.

Instead, we encourage the use of app-based 2FA codes. Many cloud-based companies including QuickBooks Online and Xero already offer this, and at times, require it.

Sadly, many banks are behind the times in offering this, so if you value security, we can recommend banks with better login security.

Good security practices include avoiding sending sensitive information via email or text messages. Instead, we utilize an encrypted client portal for any document sharing and communication.

For your own business, it’s a good idea to have security software installed and updated on your computer and regularly update your operating system and software to ensure all current patches are updated.
